About Kyeni International Organization (KIO)
Kyeni International Organization (KIO) is a Christian, community-centered nonprofit and Holistic Ministry committed to transforming the lives of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and widows in Kenya. Our story began in 2002 with the founding of Makobe Children’s Home in Kwale County, with support from Baraka Foundation.Originally home to girls orphaned by HIV/AIDS, the home later welcomed boys and also served as a rescue center for girls escaping FGM and early marriage.
Inspired by John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” We believe every child and widow should experience the fullness of life—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and economically.
Why We Exist
Kenya faces multiple challenges—poverty, drought, disease, HIV/AIDS, and harmful cultural practices—that leave millions of children orphaned or at risk. Over 3.6 million children in Kenya are considered OVCs. Many lack access to school, healthcare, and protection. Some, especially girls, face FGM, early marriage, and abuse.
KIO exists to break this cycle, by giving children a chance to grow, learn, and thrive—and by empowering widows and guardians to support themselves and their families.
